If you want to make a basic sugar syrup, begin by adding equal parts sugar and water in a saucepan. Heat the pan and stir the mixture until the sugar dissolves. Place a lid onto of the pan for a few minutes to make sure no sugar particles are left. The lid will produce condensed water, which will wash away any bits of sugar that could turn into a mass of solid crystals. Allow the syrup to cool to room temperature before storing in a sterilized, clear container. The syrup should stay good for about one month.
